Childhood trauma may not only be what you think it is.
When we think of childhood trauma, we often associate it with extreme cases of abuse or neglect. However, trauma is not just about what happened - it’s also about what didn’t happen. A child’s emotional and psychological well-being depends on their caregivers providing safety, connection, and emotional regulation. When these fundamental needs are unmet, trauma can occur, shaping the way a person experiences the world and themselves.

Understanding Childhood Trauma
Childhood trauma refers to any distressing experience that overwhelms a child’s ability to cope. This can include:
Emotional Neglect – A parent may provide physical needs but fail to offer emotional support, validation, or affection.
Inconsistent Caregiving – Frequent disruptions in attachment due to absent, emotionally unavailable, or unpredictable caregivers.
Lack of Emotional Regulation Support – Children rely on their caregivers to help them navigate overwhelming emotions. Without this guidance, they may struggle with self-regulation into adulthood.
Parental Stress or Mental Health Issues – A parent who is chronically stressed, depressed, or dealing with their own unresolved trauma may unintentionally create an unstable emotional environment.
High Expectations or Invalidating Environments – Growing up in an environment where emotions are dismissed, criticised, or ignored can cause a child to suppress their true feelings and develop patterns of self-doubt or anxiety.
The Long-Term Effects
Without the proper emotional foundation, childhood trauma can lead to challenges such as:
Difficulty managing emotions, anxiety, or depression
Struggles with forming secure relationships
Chronic stress or nervous system dysregulation
Deep-seated feelings of unworthiness or self-doubt
Using stimulants to numb emotions
Healing from Childhood Trauma
I have 25 years of experience helping clients rewire unhelpful Childhood programming.
For some people, healing begins with recognising that trauma isn't just about extreme events but also about unmet emotional needs. Usually, in the first session already, I guide individuals to turn their awareness toward their innocent inner child - this helps that wonderful inner child feel safe and seen by the Adult Self. (By Inner Child, I mean the aspect of your psyche that embodies your emotions) We could call it deep inner emotional self-regulation.
Through this process, we rewire the unconscious mind, allowing individuals to feel more empowered, safe, healthy, and free in their adult lives.
Beyond inner child work, I also help clients understand that what happened to them was not their fault. (It is never the childs fault!) Through regression techniques, we revisit past experiences and create a new perspective, allowing for deep healing. Changing 'faulty programming' as well as releasing potential shame and guilt. Additionally, I use a special advanced hypnotherapy technique designed to help clients release stored anger and sadness, providing emotional relief and lasting transformation.
My London hypnotherapy practice is now fully online, allowing clients to experience deep healing from the comfort and safety of their own homes.
If you’ve ever felt disconnected, overly anxious, or emotionally overwhelmed without understanding why, your childhood experiences may hold the key.
